Francisco Somolinos Cuesta, municipal architect of Langreo, was in charge of the reconstruction project of the parish church of San Eulogio, which would later change its dedication to Santiago Apóstol, in the district of Sama in Langreo.
The first temple was built in the 19th century with an image inspired by the Basilica of Covadonga. After the damage and final destruction caused during the October Revolution and the war, the temple is rebuilt following the indications of the General Directorate of Devastated Regions and Reparations as long as the image of the previous temple was preserved, while including clear references to one of the architectural landmarks of the region: the Cathedral of San Salvador de Oviedo.
